 Original Abstract Artwork

Lisa Livshin ArtistI don’t really remember a time when I wasn’t making art. I cycled through crayons, pastels, water colors, oils, acrylics, pen and ink, print making, and even sculpture and wheel throwing until I decided that I felt most at home in front of an easel with a paint brush in my hand.

My method has a lot to do with emotions and color. Color is powerful. I think of it as another sense.

From a young age I had an aversion to certain colors or color combinations – almost a visceral response. Yet in the presence of other colors, I would feel lifted, soothed, or expansive.

It is no wonder I use a lot of color in my paintings for expression. After I have mixed just the right colors for my mood, I fill the canvas with color and form.

Part of my process is to then turn to white paint… to add a lot of white paint…

to create more form

to mute a little bit

to tame all those colors running wild

to find balance

to find meaning
